Weighted vs. unweighted, and why both numbers exist

Unweighted GPA converts every grade on the same 4.0 scale (A/A+ = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, down to F = 0.0) regardless of course difficulty. Weighted GPA adds a bonus per course to reward harder classes - this tool uses the common +0.5 for honors and +1.0 for AP/IB, though some schools use different bonus amounts or cap the scale at 5.0, so check your school's exact policy if you need an official number. Colleges typically recalculate applicants onto their own scale anyway, which is why most GPA calculators - including this one - are best used for tracking your own trend, not as the final number an application will show. Nothing you enter here is saved or sent anywhere - it's calculated entirely in your browser. If you're pre-med, the BCPM science GPA split AMCAS actually reports is a separate calculation from either number here.
