When you create an account we store your email address, and a username and display name if you set one. As you study we store your progress: cards reviewed, scores, streaks, XP, achievements and class enrollments. We also store the content you create or import - your decks, cards, classes and sources - and, if you use them, your friend connections.
We do not run ads, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we never sell your data.
On the Encodr website and web app we use PostHog to count how the app is used, such as sign-ups, study sessions started and finished, and which features get used. When you are signed in, these events are tied to your account ID, never to your email address. They never include the text of your cards, decks or answers. If you arrive from a tagged link (for example one carrying a utm_source), we also record which campaign sent you. The Encodr iOS app does not include any analytics SDK.

Study data is stored on your device so the app works offline, and synced to our database (hosted on Supabase) so your progress follows you across devices. Data is encrypted in transit, and your signed-in session is encrypted at rest on your device.
The Encodr mobile app requires an account - study progress, decks and the feed are tied to it and sync across your devices. On the web you can try the app without signing in; in that case the data stays on your device only and is not synced to us.
If you allow notifications, we store a push token for your device against your account so we can send you things like friend requests and study reminders. Turning notifications off in your device settings stops them; deleting your account removes the token.
When you send feedback or report a deck from inside the app, we store your message along with your account and your operating system version, so we can follow up and fix the problem.
If you connect an AI assistant to your account, it can read and write your decks, cards and progress on your behalf. You can see every connected assistant, and disconnect any of them at any time, in the You tab.
You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the app: open the You tab and choose Delete account. You can also contact us at the address below and we'll delete it for you. You can report a deck you think shouldn't be published, and we review and remove content that breaks our terms.
Encodr is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
